Senior County Championship Final
Played in Austin Stack Park
East Kerry 2-14 Dr Crokes 1-7
Even though we would have been happy at half time to be down just 0-8 to 0-5, having played against a strong wind we came off very much second best in the second thirty minutes. It's hard to know if we ran out of gas, playing against a young team who fought hard for every ball in this second half. Our Congratulations to East Kerry who were very deserving winners.
Our opponents started the quicker and had three points on the board without reply by us in the first ten minutes. We did have chances during that period but were narrowly wide on a few occasions. We got back into the game score wide after that and were just behind by a point at the end of the first quarter. The teams exchanged points on two occasions in the next five minutes but East Kerry outscored us two points to one in the remaining minutes to leave the score at half time 0-8 to 0-5 in favour of our opponents. This did not seem an unassailable lead as we would have the elements in our favour in the second half.
East Kerry had the better start again in the second half with a point in the first minute. When they went through for a very good goal two minutes later we went down by seven points. We had a point to bring the lead back to six points but a goal and two points without reply by our opponents left us eleven points in arrears. Our lads never gave up the fight but our 1-1 to their their three points in the last quarter left ten points between the teams at the end.
Our Congratulations once again to our opponents on their great victory. We are still very proud of our lads. They owe nothing to the Club as they have been great ambassadors over the last two decades. Seven wins in this decade is the most wins in any decade by any Club or Divisional team. I have no doubt but that we will be back and have more great days on the playing fields in the years ahead.
Remember we lost three County Finals in the first decade of the Century and we came back to win seven in the second decade.
